Ah, spring is supposedly just around the corner, even if it's still frigid here in Oregon. And that means baseball is just around the corner. I signed up for a public league on ESPN, and here's the team I drafted (I had pick #10 in a 10-team league):
(10 overall) - Joey Votto 1b
(11) - Roy Halladay sp
(30) - Giancarlo (Mike) Stanton of
(31) - David Wright 3b
(50) - Zack Greinke sp
(51) - Ben Zobrist 2b/of
(70) - Brian McCann c
(71) - Stephen Strasburg sp
(90) - Ryan Madson rp
(91) - Adam Jones of
(110) - Matt Garza sp
(111) - Desmond Jennings of
(130) - Joel Hanrahan rp
(131) - Carlos Beltran of
(150) - Joakim Soria rp
(151) - Nick Swisher of
(170) - Stephen Drew ss
(171) - Ryan Howard 1b
(190) - Kelly Johnson 2b
(191) - Colby Rasmus of
(210) - Frank Francisco rp
(211) - Erik Bedard sp
(230) - Matt Thornton rp
(231) - Kenley Jansen rp
(250) - Roy Oswalt sp (FA)
I'm mostly happy with this team. 2012 projections are a bit of a crapshoot, but they suggest that my offense should do well on all categories except maybe batting average. But then again, that's the one that's subject to the most variation, so it's probably the best one to avoid relying on. Barring injury or disaster, my pitching staff should dominate. I think saves are a stupid stat and closers are overrated, but I've got 5.5 of them, and my starters are pretty much are high strikeout ones. Strasburg will be limited to about 160 innings, but they should 160 awesome innings. Bedard will also no doubt turn in not so many innings due to injury, but he's always effective when available. I'll have to check the waiver wire for spot starters . . . . Oswalt was just a flier; by then, I had checked out and let the computer draft for me, based on players I picked out.
