I suppose they could have changed the names (for example, when Daniel Dae Kim played "Agent Tom Baker" on "24," I thought they could have renamed him "Agent Tom Lee")

Does the actor have an accent? If not, then I don't think there's actually much dissonance in the naming -- lots of white families adopt Asian infants and raise them as their own. I've known some people with European names who were full Asian, because they had this kind of background.
