I've long railed about the lameness of the "special editions" of the first "Star Wars" trilogy, so I suppose I should have been happy with the news that the original versions of the movies are coming out on DVD:
[My] wishes will be granted Sept. 12 when Fox releases new two-disc DVDs ($30 each) of Star WarsEpisode IV: A New Hope), The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the JediStar Wars Trilogy).
Yet, I just can't see sinking another $90(!) into a collection of movies. Sure, when my baby son is old enough to watch them, I'd like him not to see the egregious Han Solo-firing-in-self-defense revision, but I don't know that it's worth that much to me, especially since I do have the original versions on laserdisc still. (Yes, laserdisc; how pop culture geeky am I?)
Even though Lucas is surely doing this now more for his wallet more than for the fans, my inner geek will compel me to turn over my hard-earned cash on Sept. 12
