According to this story, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, with a combined 27 electoral votes -- the same as Florida -- are crucial in the upcoming election, because Gore won all three states in 2000 but they have become more Republican since then.
Most disturbing to me was this line:
"If I had to bet now, I'd bet we'd win all three," said Kerry adviser Tad Devine. "Now, we'll have to throw a lot at them to win, particularly Iowa and Wisconsin, but that's fine. The president is going to have to devote a lot of resources to compete for them. I'd prefer we play on our turf."
Great, more resources to be spent here in Iowa. That means more misleading and/or vacuous campaign ads. That means more visits by the candidates, resulting in more bank robberies and more preemptions of my beloved reality TV shows.
