Today in class, a student I called on asked to pass. So I moved to the next student in the row and explained:
It's like that scene in Under Siege, where Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey have taken over the battleship, and they're having the sailors march into a holding area. One of the sailors bravely resists and gets killed. Then Tommy Lee Jones kills the next sailor and says, "Let that be a lesson to you. If you resist we will kill you and the man standing next to you!"
The class seemed amused. Then I quickly explained that I, of course, was not killing them, literally or figuratively.
Still, one of the all time greatest knife fights occurred in that flick. I didn't know Jones had it in him.

I do that at the beginning of the semester and work through everyone once. Then I start hopping around randomly.
