Though I've been silent on it of late, I'm still watching this season of "American Idol." Put me in the camp that thought that gray-haired Taylor Hicks was interesting at first but has worn out his welcome. His spasmodic movements on stage make William Shatner look like a subtle actor.
That means, as far as the guys go, Chris Daughtery is the only one that I can see winning AND selling lots of CDs. I don't particularly like his style of music (though I don't dislike it), but I acknowledge his incredible presence and performance.
As far as the women go, Mandisa has a terrific voice, but I don't like the fact that she's had significant prior commercial experience singing (as do a few of the other finalists). Paris Bennett has a nice voice but is kind of bland on stage. Kelly Pickler is more interesting than last year's winner (Carrie Underwood), to whom she's been compared a lot, but ultimately, country's not my gig. So I'm kind of hoping for a showdown between Chris and Katharine McPhee.
