Watched tonight's "American Idol" (10 males left, 2 will be cut on Wednesday). Too many of the singers picked bland ballads. The ones that stood out positively were Bo Bice, even though I didn't like the song; Anthony Federov; and Travis Tucker, who at least sang an interesting song (Lionel Richie's "All Night Long").
Meanwhile, when Nikko Smith sang "Let's Get It On," I found myself wondering what I would say if Nicholas (assuming he were old enough to watch TV) were to ask me, "What does this song mean?"
I suppose there's some irony in this, considering that the busybodies at the Parents Television Council rates "American Idol" as the #8 best show for families to watch. Yeah, between the sometimes randy song lyrics and the rampant beeped out cursing during the audition rounds ("Daddy, why is there that logo over that singer's mouth?"), I'm sure there's a lot for parents to discuss with their kids. . . .
