You know how in those shows like "Survivor" that whenever someone gets booted off, he/she always says, "I take it as a compliment that they were afraid of me," but it's usually because he/she was just annoying to have around?
In tonight's episode of "The Amazing Race," Colin and Christie were the clear choice to be Yielded once they fell behind, and it really was because they were feared by the others. The Yield meant that they had to stop for a set amount of time before being allowed to continue racing. As a result, they fell farther behind, and when they hit the task of using a cow and plough to find a buried object, Colin just fell apart completely.
Fortunately for C&C, this was yet another non-elimination leg, meaning four (not three) teams make it to the two hour finale next week. As usual, for having finished last, C&C are stripped of all their money.
Do you think C&C will go to Chip and Kim (who Yielded them) and demand money?
I think that once C&C talk to the other teams at the pitstop, they'll realize that all the other teams would've used the yield on them, so they can't really place all the blame on C&K. A more interesting question I have, given that the previous finales have only involved 3 teams, is that do you think the producers made a last minute decision to make the leg non-elimination in order to not elimate C&C because they're clearly the strongest team and that they finished last perhaps only because of the yield? On the otherhand, the yield was placed so late in the race that whoever got yielded had very little opportunity to make up the time so it would only be fair not to eliminate someone who finishes last only because of the yield.

Yes, I think C&C will demand money from C&K, and I hope C&K don't give it to them. C&C are very scary people; all along I'd thought Colin was the bad guy, and he is, but this recent episode showed Christie's got her own anger and stress management issues. These guys could not cope with adversity to save their lives! They now deserve to lose both because the've been complete jerks to each other and everyone else the whole game, and now also because they've showed they collapse under pressure. They've clearly been doing so well because they've been doing so well. How will they cope w/starting from behind? Expect extreme nastiness, I'm guessing.
G: I had the same thought as you. When I realized C&C were going to be "the last team to arrive," I started getting exciited about their elimination. The most hated team is gone! But then they weren't eliminated, and it looked fishy. Yet, there was really no other time to have a non-elimination leg. There were always four non-elimination legs planned (at least that's what they've been saying for weeks), so if they didn't do the last one last night, when would they do it? I think C&C just got lucky, but so did CBS b/c now the drama and tension are higher than ever for the finale next week.

Given all the laws and regulations relating to the fixing of game shows, the NELs are almost certainly fixed before the race even starts, barring EXTREMELY extenuating circumstances. For instance, this year's race allegedly was rerouted--the leg that was in Dubai was going to be in Turkey, but was moved to Dubai due to global issues. Because the leg may not have been as well constructed as they'd like, MAYBE that would justify making it an NEL.

I don't think they will necessarily demand money from Chip and Kim, but I do think if given the opportunity they would yield them for revenge even if yielded a different team would help them more. Or they may even try to slow them down by some other devious method.
Ambimb - You asked "There were always four non-elimination legs planned (at least that's what they've been saying for weeks), so if they didn't do the last one last night, when would they do it? Every other season they have had a non-elimination on the last night so that there are three teams for both legs of the finale. Therefore it really was a surprise to me that there was a non-elimination last night, and does make one wonder about whether it was planned.
Although I don't like them and don't want them to win, I was kind of glad that they weren't eliminated last night because I think the yield is not fair I would rather see them lose fairly on their own mistakes. Though maybe I think that because the yield is new and it was the first time it was used. If it was always around I guess it would feel like a fair obstacle of the of the game.

Why is the yield unfair? Do you think everyone would have been so quick to yield C&C if C&C had not been jerks the whole season? Couldn't it be that C&C's mistakes have been to alienate other teams so that those teams will do anything -- including using a yeild on them -- to slow them down? If so, then the yield is potentially a fair way to see that people *do* lose on their own mistakes. Maybe.

I agree with you that if C&C were yeilded because they alienated the other teams then yes, it could be concluded that they lost from their own mistakes. However, as I remember it, all the other teams specifically said they wanted to yeild C&C not because they didn't like them, but because they were the best team. Chip and Kim especially have said that they are just waiting for Colin and Christie to make mistakes so they can get ahead, as though that is the only way Chip and Kim would have a chance. Which is fine if C&C do make a mistake.
Though I guess you could consider being the last to make it to the yeild a mistake.
Technically, the yeild is fair as it has been a part of the race for the entire season and everyone is aware that it can be used on them at anytime. Again my reaction may be in part because after watching all the other seasons I think I prefer the other old format with fast forwards on every leg and no yeilds. That way only one team can get ahead (if they use it wisely), instead of all teams but one benefiting. It is really just a personal preference I guess.
